We are a Nottingham based Community Interest Company (13239217) whose dual mission is to prevent fixable items going to landfill, while helping local people acquire new skills which will improve their chances of finding employment.
To start off with with will be focusing on collecting broken or unloved electrical items, such as Household Lighting, Kitchen Gadgets, Garden Equipment and Audio Visual. We repair and return for a small fee or repair and donate to a charity to sell onto new owners.
Any funds generated will be used to finance the equipment needed to repair items and all profits will be reinvested into helping train and eventually employ local people to work alongside our volunteers.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY?
A community interest company (CIC) is a type of company structure designed for social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good. CICs have special features to ensure they are working for the benefit of the community e.g. the Asset Lock. They are overseen by the Regulator of Community Interest Companies.
WHAT IS ILLUMINATION REPAIRS CIC?
Illumination Repairs is a Community Interest Company (13239217) whose dual mission is to prevent fixable items going to landfill and to simultaneously help local people acquire new skills which will improve their chances of finding employment. Initially focusing on Household Lighting (Table Lamps, Floor Lamps, Ceiling Lights, Outdoor Lights and Wall Lights) we will take donations of broken or unloved household electrics which our team of repair volunteers will return to their former glory and PAT safety test. We will then sell these items to new owners and reinvest all profits to help train and eventually employ local people to work alongside our volunteers. We will measure our community impact in two ways i) annual Kg of landfill avoided and ii) annual profit £s re-invested in training/providing employment opportunities for local people.
WHY IS REPAIR IMPORTANT?
Actively encouraged by manufacturers, customers dispose of and replace highly sophisticated, resource intense electronic items like yesterday’s newspaper. Even if raw material does avoid landfill and is recycled back into the supply chain, it is in the manufacture that most CO2 is produced (50-80%), all of which is lost when we recycle or dispose.

The EU has recognised this and in 2019 adopted a package of legislation setting out EU wide rules on:
i) reparability
ii) availability of spare parts
iii) access to repair and maintenance information for certain products (refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and washer-dryers).
WHO IS BEHIND ILLUMINATION REPAIRS CIC?
Illumination Repairs is managed and run by a small team of enthusiastic volunteers. We are tinkerers, curious creatives, qualified electricians and engineers, who all bring practical pairs of hands and a passion for fixing things to avoid them going to landfill, while learning new skills.
